Audiometry is the technique for testing the acuity level of a person's hearing ability. This is achieved by using an AUDIOMETER which is calibrated to produce a wide range of sounds (Frequency). The patient responds to these sounds and the lowest level of sound perceived is called the Threshold Level. This provides the base line for Pure Tone Audiometry.

At AMS we have also included a test sequence called TYMPANOMETRY which measures the function of the middle ear and gives an accurate and complete test of total ear function. The testing sequence takes twenty minutes and includes taking occupational and medical history and full otoscopic examination of the ear. The results are recorded on a chart for the individual's retention and on the AMS Computerised Reporting System. Each person is individually counselled with testing carried out by qualified Audiometric staff, "using the most up-to-date audiometer/tympanometer technology".

THE BENEFITS OF AUDIOMETRY

It provides base line levels of hearing, both for new employees and existing staff employed in noise hazardous areas. It also governs the effectiveness of Noise Conservation Programmes.

Currently it is estimated that in the UK 1.8 million workers are exposed to the risk of noise induced deafness. Some of these may have a deafness not caused by noise (Nerve Deafness) and Audiometry/Tympanometry will detect those persons with conditions requiring medical treatment. The AMS direct G.P. reporting system ensures that this will be carried out promptly.

Audiometric results are presented in a tabular format with easy identification of individual changes, and reports are security number coded for confidentiality.

This programme represents one of the most advanced and complete Audiometric services in Europe. You are assured that the service will care for your employees and provide you with all needs, in present and projected legal requirements.
